What do the symbols on my mini split remote mean? ›

The remote will show whether the unit is in Cool, Heat, Fan, or Dry/Dehumidify mode by displaying a symbol (icon) at the top of the remote display. Cool Mode: Snowflake symbol. Heat Mode: Sun symbol. Fan Mode: Fan symbol (circle with fan blades inside it) Dry/Dehumidification: Rain Drop symbol.

Dead or weak batteries are one of the most common reasons for remote control failure. Replace the batteries with new ones, ensuring they are correctly installed with the right polarity. Sometimes, even batteries that appear to have charge left can be too weak to send a strong signal to your mini split unit.

Mini split auto mode will allow your system to change fan speed based on the weather and your temperature setting. So, be sure to use auto mode, it's the best setting for mini split efficiency!

Keep in mind that mini-splits measure temperature at the point of installation, typically closer to the ceiling, so you may need to adjust the temperature slightly higher than what you're accustomed to. Additionally, utilizing the “AUTO” fan setting on your mini-split is recommended.

Standard Mini Split Controls

You're able to manually control the unit by turning it on or off, setting the thermostat (to cool or heat), and controlling the airspeed and vane direction. Some models may even feature timers and sensors that will promote better comfort and convenience.

Replace the batteries according to the polarity markings on the battery compartment. The air conditioner may not respond to remote commands even if the batteries have been inserted correctly. This could be due to dirt or clogging that is preventing the remote from working properly.

However, the most common reasons for a TV remote that is not working are battery issues, paring issues, or infrared sensor issues. Press the power button while pointing the remote control at your TV. Make sure the LED indicator on the TV blinks. If not, your remote does not have enough power remaining in the batteries.

What is the best temperature for a mini-split in summer? ›

A good operating temperature for those summer days when it's too hot to do anything but stay inside is around 78 degrees. Is that too warm for you? You can always try a temperature of around 74 to 76 degrees.

Mid-level mini splits run at 100 percent efficiency down to 20°F and typically require a base pan heater. These work well for heating moderate to cold climates. Economy-level mini splits run at 100 percent efficiency down to 30°F and may shut off at temperatures below 20°F.
