Dill Dip Ingredients

  • Mayo: For that creamy and light texture, mayonnaise is the way to go.
  • Sour Cream: This base pairs perfectly with the mayo making a fun mixture.
  • Dill Weed: Dill weed makes this a dill dip with sour cream, perfect for all you pickle lovers out there.
  • Onion Powder: Onion powder compliments the dill flavoring adding a more diverse flavor profile.
  • Oregano: Such a great universal herb that goes well in so many recipes.

How To Make Veggie Dill Dip

  1. Mix. In a small or medium-sized mixing bowl, mix together all of the dip ingredients. If you want to sneak a little taste test in there, go for it – I won’t tell!
  2. Cover and Cool. Cover the bowl of dip tightly with plastic wrap, making sure no air can get in or out. Then, place the dip in the fridge and let it cool for at least 2 hours before serving. You really want to make sure it has time to chill to the perfect temperature, and to let the flavors really meld together.
  3. Serve. Cut up your favorite veggies, serve, and enjoy!

Tips & Variations

  • Quick and Easy. This recipe comes together so quickly and easily, you could probably have your kids do it for you! Just stir, cover, and cool, and enjoy this Veggie Dill Dip. Yes, it’s really that easy!
  • Make it Garlicky. I like that dill is the most powerful flavor in this dip, and is only enhanced by the onion powder. However, if you don’t mind (or really love) a kick of garlic to go along with the dill flavor, add a 1/2 tablespoon of garlic powder to the mix!
  • Chips. Look… I get it. Sometimes veggies just don’t hit the spot the same way a salty potato chip does! Consider serving some chips alongside your fresh veggies for a less healthy but delicious alternative.
  • More Onion. Do you love the hint of sweet onion powder in this dip as much as I do? Then you need to toss in a tablespoon of onion powder. It gives the slightest texture to the dip that is bound to make your mouth water!

Recipe FAQ

What is good to dip veggies in?

I love dipping carrots, cucumbers, celery, broccoli, and cherry tomatoes in veggie dip. You can also dip chips or crackers.

What is veggie dip made of?

Veggie dip with sour cream is usually made with a combination of sour cream, mayonnaise, dill, onion, garlic, and salt. This recipe uses seasoning salt as well.

Can I freeze veggie dip?

Freezing veggie dip is not recommended as the texture and consistency may change after thawing. Dairy-based dips can separate and become watery, while others may lose their flavor or become grainy. It’s best to enjoy veggie dip fresh or make a smaller batch if needed.

How long does veggie dip stay fresh?

The shelf life of veggie dip depends on its specific ingredients, but in general, a homemade dip can stay fresh in the refrigerator for 3-5 days.

Can veggie dip be made vegan?

Yes, veggie dip can be easily made vegan by using dairy-free options like plant-based yogurts or sour cream alternatives, and replacing other animal-based ingredients such as mayonnaise or cheese with vegan substitutes or omitting them altogether.

This was super yummy, but I did make some subs. I didn’t have mayo, only Miracle Whip. First taste was not all I’d hoped and dreamt it would be. So, I added about a teaspoon of sea salt, another 1/2 T of garlic powder (like the garlic A LOT), about 1 t of minced onion, and used Dan-O’s spicy seasoning (no salt). Holy schnikies, Batman, that’s some good yum yum in my tum tum!
