Biomes & Nature - Random biome idea (no longer as much of a fan of this suggestion) (2024)

I’m aware that the biome wars has be mostly settled but I think the corruption/ crimson jungle biome needs a bit of a makeover as it looks very bland and doesn’t have any unique characters, vegetation, loot, or terrain. The solution to this is to basically rework the infected jungle and make the crimson/ corruption ecosystem more diverse as it hasn’t be freshened up for a bit with new content.

Corrupt / Crimson Jungle Rework

The corrupt jungle has rich ebonwood trees instead of rich mahogany trees, which drop ebonwood when chopped and appear more scruffy than regular mahogany trees and have green gunk like phlegm splattered on its purplish grey bark. The regular jungle bushes and ferns are converted into larger mangy overgrown shrubbery with eyes sunken into gross lesions as well as more yellowish green phlegm oozing out of it. Amongst the larger shrubbery there are smaller sized shrubs which have the bones and skulls of perished dryads lodged into it ( the dryads were guardians of the jungle at one point when they were more populated ). Smaller vegetation like grass and stuff consists of phlegm, bones , and jagged teeth (the usual corruption stuff) . The corrupted bamboo and underground mahogany trees also has a new appearance. Corrupt bamboo still drops bamboo. Corrupt shrubbery can still grow under water. That’s all for the flora now I will more onto the fauna.

(Art of grobe pupa)

When the player mines the corrupt shubbery it would sort of burst into green snots but instead of having the chance to spawn grubbies, sluggies, and buggies if you are in HM it would have a chance to spawn a larger amalgamated version of this critters known as a “grobe pupa”. Grobe pupas are quick and have bioluminescent backs and have similar stats to antlion larva but are stronger and also inflict cursed inferno and have a chance to drop 1-2 cursed flames. Grobe pupas if not dealt with can grow up into more voracious “grobe grunts” which are adult grobes that are twice as strong as antlion swarmers , inflict cursed inferno as well as drop more cursed flames (2-5), and glow slightly. Further on, termite mound/ barnacle stationary organisms called “ grobe nectaries” have a chance to spawn among the corrupt jungle vegetation. The grobe nectary is immobile and it would spawn hostile grobe pupas that the player would have to prioritise on killing in order to lower the grobe nectary’s defence and make dispatching it easier.

As for unique drops grobe nectary’s have a chance to drop a new sentry accessory called grobe ganglia (ganglia basically means insect brain by the way).

Tooltip: Minions have 1/5 chance of spawning grobe pupas when they hit enemies that attack

Sentries have 1/3 chance of spawning grobe pupas.

Side note: the summoned grobe pupas do not grow up into grobe grunts. Also a lot of the corrupt jungle fauna is inspired from half life’s antlion species and have a similar hierarchy like them. Further more all enemies that spawn in corrupt/ crimson jungle are HM exclusive.

The crimson jungle has rich shadewood trees instead of rich mahogany trees, that drop shadewood when chopped and have more ragged foliage and have spines and eyes instead of vines. Jungle bushes are converted to bloody and larger shrubbery that looks like chunks of flesh with ichor blisters, teeth, and creeping yellow eyes within them. The smaller jungle bushes are converted to mutilated and desecrated dryad remains that are barely recognisable besides skulls and a few bones. Smaller vegetation consists of more flesh, bisters, as wells as bits of cadavers. Bamboo also gets converted into crimson bamboo. Now for the fauna.

Mining any of the crimson jungle shrubs will cause it to rupture into puddles of ichor that give you the debuff and also have the chance of spawning voracious bunnies or goldfish that normally spawn during blood moons. In HM mining shrubs have a chance to drop 1-2 ichor as well. Amid the fleshy shrubbery stationary enemies that act as warped bonsai-like crimson trees spawn known as “hemodryads” (pun on hamadryad) that when approached by unsuspecting terrarians will turn into skeletal blood dryad brutes that will attempt to punt the player (similar to nymphs).

As for unique drops hemodryads have a chance to drop a sentry accessory called the “gall wasp”.

Tooltip: 2 circles of spinning red leaves will spawn around you

All minions within the circle receive a 12% attack bonus

All sentries within the circle receive a 18% attack bonus

This is the crimson/ corrupt jungle proposal so far. The fauna in the corrupt jungle is inspired a lot from calamity’s hive mind boss and the fauna in the crimson jungle is inspired quite a bit from the perforators from the calamity mod. Usually people’s jungles don’t get infected until they reach hard mode, so most players I assume will probably generate this biome by some artificial means and also the reason why all the enemies there spawn in HM. If this suggestion gains enough popularity I will probably begin working on what the grobe and hemodryads enemies could look like when I have some time to kill.
