Bahamas: COVID-19 Entry Requirements All Travelers Need To Know (2024)

The Bahamas first reopened July 1, 2020, but since has gone through many changes when it comes to entry requirements.

New COVID-19 entry requirements seem to be ever-changing in the Bahamas, however, we continue to update this post to keep you informed.

Here is everything you need to know before you book your trip.

Countries Permitted To Visit the Bahamas

Travelers from all countries are permitted to visit the Bahamas under regular visa requirements.

Update: As of November 29, 2021, visitors from Botswana, Eswatini Lesotho,Malawi,Mozambique, Namibia, Zimbabwe; and South Africa will not be allowed entry.

Travel Authorization To Visit Bahamas

  • All travelers must fill out a Travel Health Visa before traveling to the Bahamas.
  • Ensure you apply with enough time before your trip as applications will take up to 48 hours for approval
  • Print and keep the Travel Health Visa on you for presentation to airline and border officials.
  • The cost of the Travel Health Visa is $40 for fully vaccinated travelers. The fees for unvaccinated travelers are $40 for stays under 4 days and $60 for stays over 4 days.

COVID-19 Testing Entry Requirements

Prior to Arrival

All travelers must present proof of a negative COVID-19 test when completing their Travel Health Visa, regardless of vaccination status.

Vaccinated travelers and visitors between the ages 2 to 11 may use an antigen test. Unvaccinated travelers need to use a PCR test.

The test result can not be older than 3 days prior to the date of arrival.

After Arrival

All persons remaining in the country for more than 48 hours will be required to undergo antigen test, regardless of vaccination status.

This can be facilitated by the hotel. Results are available in under 60 minutes and will be delivered via email or SMS.

Quarantine Entry Requirements

All travelers will NOT be required to quarantine as long as their Bahamas Travel Health Visa has been approved which includes a mandatory COVID-19 test.

COVID-19 Travel Insurance Entry Requirements

All incoming travelers should have travel insurance the covers COVID-19 for the duration of their trip to Bahamas.

After November 14:

Mandatory travel health insurance will be applied to all incoming tourists. The cost will be included in the Travel Health Visa application.

COVID-19 Health Requirements While in the Bahamas:

  • Visitors will be required to wear face masks in “any situation where it is necessary to enforce physical distancing guidelines.” In addition to airports and sea terminals, travelers must wear masks in taxis, while checking in at hotels, standing in line at attractions and before being seated at restaurants. Masks are not required on the beach. Failure to comply with the country’s mask guidelines could result in a $250 fine or one month imprisonment.
  • National Curfew is in effect. The Bahamas will continue its mandatory curfew from 10 p.m. to 5 a.m., so travelers must return to their housing accommodations during that time. Visitors will be allowed to move freely throughout their hotel and resort properties during curfew.

Update: As of November 2021, curfews throughout the Bahamas have been discontinued.

COVID-19 Vaccine Entry Requirements

The Bahamas still requires fully vaccinated passengers to undergo testing.

The Bahamian government is requiring vaccinated passengers to bring proof they’ve been inoculated and at least 2 weeks have passed since they’ve received their last shot.

Visa Entry Requirements For the Bahamas During COVID-19

All travelers arriving in the Bahamas will need to follow regular visa requirements.

Bahamas Covid-19 Entry Requirements:

  1. Apply for a Travel Health Visa
  2. Upload your negative 72-hour COVID-19 test to your application for your Travel Health Visa within 5 days of arrival in the Bahamas.
  3. Stays over 2 nights will take a 2nd rapid antigen test on the 3rd day.
  4. Follow all health protocols while in the Bahamas.
