Okay, so we all know about broccoli, and that it’s a healthy vegetable. It seems people either love it or hate it, but broccoli really has so many great qualities. For starters, broccoli is full of fiber, great for keeping a healthy digestive tract. It’s also a good source of Folate, and high in Vitamin C, K, and Potassium.

Can You Eat Raw Broccoli?

Yes! Broccoli can be eaten raw. Simply wash it with fresh running water, pat dry and use a sharp knife to cut the broccoli florets from the main stem.
Most people will be able to eat raw broccoli without any digestive issues, however, because it is a cruciferous vegetable, if you find that you have digestive upset after eating raw or lightly cooked broccoli, you should stick to eating steamed or roasted broccoli.

How To Make Brocolli Taste Better?

I personally love steamed or roasted broccoli with a delicious french salad dressing or a simple green dressing.
You may also try steamed broccoli with a teaspoon (or more) or butter, olive oil or lemon juice. These really bring out the freshness and flavor of the broccoli. Don’t forget to add a little sale and pepper!

Of course, all of these paleo broccoli dishes are delicious. Let me know which ones you try!

Why put broccoli in ice water before cooking? ›

Keep those veggies green—really green

The one from the ice-water bath will have a softer, runnier yolk than the one left on the counter to cool. An ice water bath will slow down and stop the cooking process rapidly because water absorbs a large amount of energy in the form of heat.

Why do you soak broccoli in salt water? ›

Immediatley before cooking, soak your broccoli, head down, in cold, salted water (1 tsp salt to 8 cups water) for 5 minutes. Any critters will float to the top where you can rescue them or allow them to suffer a salty death.

When can broccoli not be eaten? ›

Appearance: Fresh broccoli should be uniformly bright green. If there are yellow or brown spots, it's a sign that it's past its prime. If you see any mold, such as white or black fuzzy patches, it's definitely spoiled. Smell: If the broccoli has a strong odor or an off smell, throw it out.

What part of broccoli is not edible? ›

Much like cauliflower, every part of the broccoli plant is edible. This Stir-Fried Broccoli combines the florets, stems, and leaves of the broccoli plant. This leaves nothing to waste.

How do you perk up broccoli? ›

You can soak the broccoli in a bowl of ice water for 30 minutes or more to help it regain its firmness. How do you take the bitterness out of broccoli? ›

Most recipes that use it jump through hoops to tame the green, blanching and shocking it to quell the compound responsible for the bitterness before cooking it. But a dunk in hot water eliminates the vegetable's bitterness almost entirely, stripping it of its unique character.

How do you neutralize the taste of broccoli? ›

Blanching! If you wind up with broccoli that has a bitter flavor, you can reduce or eliminate the taste by immersing your broccoli in boiling water for 1-2 minutes. Immediately remove the broccoli and immerse it in ice water. This process draws out the compounds which some people perceive as bitter.
