We love Disney World—don’t get us wrong. But there are so many other destinations worthy of your family vacation time. Choose one of these vacations for something new, and don’t worry—The Mouse will always be waiting.

1. Bar Harbor, Maine

Head north along the coast of Maine and you’ll find some of the world’s loveliest beaches and seaside villages. 3. Disney’s Aulani Resort – Oahu, HI

5. Lake Tahoe, California

Or, combine your visit with a trip to Portland, Oregon, about an hour outside of this National Scenic Area.

7. Xcaret Park – Playa del Carmen, Mexico

Try something different this year—go to an amusem*nt park in Mexico! Xcaret Park, located in Playa del Carmen, offers something for everyone in your family. 8. Iceland

Only a five-hour flight from New York City, Iceland is exotic, yet close to home for those who live on the East Coast. Your whole family will enjoy the scenery as you make your way around the famous Ring Road, where you’ll spot breathtaking waterfalls, glaciers and volcanos. In the capital city of Reykjavik, the geothermal pools with slides—including the popular Blue Lagoon—are another highlight for kids. Bonus: Iceland can be explored in less than a week’s time, making it optimal for family “microcations” year-round.

9. Dude Ranches – Multiple Locations

Dude ranches are so much fun for families, and they’re all-inclusive, too! The focus at dude ranches (also known as guest ranches) is on spending quality time together and enjoying the great outdoors. Families can expect to saddle up for horseback riding, archery, line dancing, bonfires, hiking, biking, swimming and more—all in some of the most beautiful parts of the U.S. Many dude ranches offer special activities for specific age groups, as well, from tots to teens.
