New Orleans is a beautiful place to visit with local pools that are free and accessible to the public.
They also offers a whole host of swim lessons geared to different ages and abilities for at no cost. Perhaps the most visible of these pools is the one in front of Audubon Zoo known as the The Cool Zoo.
However, there are quiet a number of water parks in New Orleans. It is advisable to do a good research before making a decision on where to take your family or friends.
One has to ensure the operating hours the pools are open before heading out and please note that if the pool is filled to capacity, additional swimmers may not be allowed.
1. The Cool Zoo

New Orleans has one of the best water parks in the country. It’s made even better by the fact that there is a splash park within the zoo called “The Cool Zoo!” The water slides, water cannons and all kinds of cool fun is all found at the Cool Zoo!
There is an additional admission price to the cost of the zoo itself, but in the heat of the summer, it’s worth it. The Cool Zoo is a great place for kids of all ages. Many people enjoy their summer holiday visiting the park.
There are various activities but some people prefer having lunch under the shade tree and splash in a smaller area with some low key water shooting out of the ground.
The Cool Zoo can get very crowded, so anyone planning to visit the park may consider renting a cabana for a special treat.
There is also an awesome lazy river in New Orleans, located within the Cool Zoo splash park, called the Gator Run. Just like Cool Zoo, the water flowing in the lazy river can be heated when necessary.
Anyone under 48 inches will need a life jacket supplied by Audubon Zoo. No outside food or beverage is allowed in Cool Zoo or Gator Run. Visitors can bring their own towels or purchase them at the Cool Shop.
2. Lafreniere Splash Pad

Geared to ages 10 and under, this Splash Pad just outside of New Orleans is a great place to spend some time running around and staying cool.
Complete with 13 water features, there is a lot of splashing to be done! Locals love the park specifically for the toddlers. The Plum Street Snowball stand is awesome to visit after you play!
3. Nordc Pools

4. Ormond Spray Park
The Park is located at 1901 Ormond Boulevard in Destrehan, which is about 20-25 minutes from central New Orleans. This is technically a little outside of New Orleans with its River Parishes location, but there are lots of fun things for kids to do in the area.
5. Mandeville Lakefront Splash Pad
This splash pad is located on the Lakefront, New Orleans and about 45 minutes drive. The park is next to the playground and near the harbor. It’s rarely packed! This Northshore favorite is another 100% free activity.
6. Jambalaya Park
This water park is in Gonzales, Louisiana and about 45-50 minutes from New Orleans. The spray park is absolutely free! There is also a pool at this park that is public but charges an entrance fee which is worth visiting.
A good option for a weekend out with family.
7. Blue Bayou Water Park

If one is willing to go to Baton Rouge, one may get a two-for-one deal by visiting both the Blue Bayou Water Park and the Dixie Landin Amusem*nt Park for the price of one.
It is a good place to thrill seek in your family while also cooling off at the water park. The Racers, which they claim to be the fastest water racer in the world, are one of the many attractions of the Blue Bayou Water Park. This is definitely aimed at older kids.
8. Liberty Lagoon
Liberty Lagoon, also located in Baton Rouge, offers water fun for toddlers, preschoolers and kids of all ages. Open 7 days a week, this is always a cool option for Louisiana kids! This is a good option for a family day our or rather weekend out.
When children are having their holidays, the choose to visit New Orleans will be a refreshing moment with water splash, sliding and water guns.
9. Aqua Pards
Just over an hour outside of New Orleans in Denham Springs, this fun water park is geared more toward younger children.
It includes a few slides, a small lazy river, and several water features which both children and adults enjoy.
10. Kroc Center Indoor Water Park
This is an amazing warm fun indoor water park that is heated year-round. It requires advanced planning since reservations are required. It is interesting how one local mom avails herself to share her advice for free.
However, there are other water parks full of fun and therefore, those planning to visit New Orleans need to pre plan well in advance.
Other water parts include Guld Islands Water Park, Buccaneer Bay Waterpark, Bayou Segnette Wave Pool which offers boating, fishing, camping, canoeing, hiking, picnicking, playgrounds and, of course, swimming in the wave pool.
Others include Gulfport Mississippi which requires a one day trip and the Ship Island. More importantly, Thibodaux Municipal Pool offers more than 2,500 square feet of fun with 24 separate water features, including sprinklers and fountains, synchronized to perform a show-like experience.
During the summer season, many people visit New Orleans water parks to enjoy the sunny weather and have a time for family.
In particular, when children are in for holidays, parents take time to take a road trip or a drive in the neighborhood with a splash at the end of it all.
Therefore, anyone looking for a place to relax with family and friends, will never be wrong to choose New Orleans to be a holiday destination for a weekend or a day out.
